Read Faster

Life on this planet is fascinating. It has been for centuries, and will continue to be so for decades to come. Yet as the world evolves, and spirals in ever more complex ways, so it becomes harder to get a handle on what is happening around us.

Ten years into the new millennium, and the world has seen amazing new developments in technology that has made communication across the globe that much easier…and at the same time that much harder to fathom. Just when one company brings out some new life-enhancing gadget, so another takes us in a new direction. Keeping up with it all is hard.

With so much going on, it is no surprise that many people feel left out. This is where learning to read faster can come in handy using the skill known as “speed-reading”.

Although there are still classes, and workshops providing tuition on speed-reading, the advent, and burgeoning popularity of home computers has seen a rapid rise in the development of computer programs devoted to speed-reading education.

The advantage of learning via computer rather than the physical act of reading normal classroom-based tutorial textbooks is that the accent really is on developing speedy reading. Old habits like “subvocalization” (ie: the way we were taught in schools to speak the words in our heads as we read which we take with us into adulthood) are kicked into touch as the software teaches students how to use peripheral vision, and linear eye movement.

The idea is to take “normal” reading speeds of 150-300 words a minute and increase them up to three-fold initially by forcing the brain to respond more quickly to what the eye is feeding it. It is a form of brain training that is very effective. By concentrating the mind on what one is reading, and read faster it is actually possible to make the brain respond more quickly. In fact the brain is happier if we are reading faster rather than slowly, as the mind starts to wander if it is not occupied. But the reason the brain can begin to read more quickly is because speed-reading is all about seeing the words as pictures rather than sounds.

Naturally, the new speed-reading student will initially understand less the more quickly they read – but comprehension soon develops over time to match the new reading speed. The beauty of speed-reading is that it can be adapted to suit different types of reading material, whilst still maintaining a quicker rate than the old normal one, thus providing a sort of liberation of personal development.

To understand more about the wonderful possibilities that speed-reading offers check out some speed-reading software such as 7 Speed Reading. A new product available at a very reasonable price, 7 Speed Reading covers the whole subject of speed-reading from A-Z with easy to use step-by-step exercises, and video aids that are suitable for all the family.

With customized development programs, and expert tutors to guide students along the way 7 Speed Reading is the most complete software package available.
